The hatchery is located on the north end of Saltspring Island, British Columbia in the Straits of Georgia map. Frequent sailings, on three routes operated by BC Ferries connects Salt Spring Island to the mainland and Vancouver Island.
The facility comprises a purpose-designed 1,100m2 building that is set back from the ocean and sits at about 30m above sea level. All production is carried out indoors under environmentally controlled conditions. Sea water is provided from wells located at the beach. In the same manner water is discharged, undergoing cleaning with a 37micron screen, prior to injection into wells from where the water percolates back to the ocean.
