Being a new sector in the fish farming industry, the grow-out methods for sablefish are rapidly evolving. In this section we will be posting updates on the growth performance and culture methods for sablefish on the farm.

Juvenile sablefish leaving the hatchery at 10grams are completely adapted to life in the oceans. four to six weeks before leaving the hatchery they are acclimatized to feeding on dry food and at the time they leave the hatchery they are feeding on 1.5-2mm pellets. Transport to the farms is carried out in well boats or by truck.

Sablefish juveniles are robust and voracious. Once on the farm the fish resume feeding within 24 hours. At this time it is advisable to use similar diets to those that were employed in the hatchery prior to transport.
